The hoop guided me out of darkness

“One year three months ago. I remember getting the phone call from my Aunt; I was at the end of a very long road trip… {travelling from Utah to New Jersey} she asked me if I was sitting down, I could hear the pain in her voice. She said, “I want to tell you this before you see it on social media or in the news. They found your sister Lani deceased behind a restaurant in Boise. The police aren’t sure the cause of the death yet, but I’ll keep you posted the more that I know. I’m so sorry.”

Everything suddenly felt like a dream. My feelings began as confusion and then moved onto guilt. My mind took me back to the memory of the last thing I said to her… she was reaching out to me, and I pushed her away because I didn’t agree with her choices. She had an addiction problem and would not accept the kind of help that my family & I wanted to offer her. My Dad, however, never gave up. He forgave her time and time again, just as I should’ve done. The guilt I had for not being there for her made me feel unworthy of having grief and sadness about her death. It was a never ending circle of pain and confusion.

That is when (thanks to a few of my incredibly supportive friends) I picked up a hoop for the first time…. and guys, I can safely say that it guided me out of darkness. It taught me that there is an infinite abundance of energy surrounding each and every one of us, the most important thing is here and now. We are all connected through these never ending circles.. we are all united in this flow of life. Meditation was always something I struggled with; I couldn’t figure out how to turn off my thoughts. Flow arts have taught me how to center my attention; a form of meditation all on its own.

The flow community is SO supportive even if you are just beginning, it is not about competing.. which is what many of us have been taught to do growing up in school. This is about connecting and creating together. When the music hits you & you step into that flow-state-of-mind, it honestly feels like you’re flying. It’s a magical and transformative experience that puts things into perspective and teaches us how to be a LIGHT in all of this darkness

In the last year, I’ve learned that I am not the only one with a story like this one. A story that’ll inspire you to pick up a flow toy yourself….

That is what encouraged me to create Hoop Spirit Guide
